Hello Monkeyverse! It's your resident Lowdown Motown Junkie here with her next installment of Melissa's Motor City Ditty!
In our last chapter, we learned about how I got launched into the monkeyverse and my first concert experience at the Shelter in downtown Detroit. Like I said, that was one of the best concert experiences I had ever had. That was, until I went to Pittsburgh on April 28, 2010... but before I go there, let's go back in time shall we? Let's say... ohh... about a month before that concert, so that puts us at sometime the end of March.
Some of you may have seen me popped into several threads over on the Chatter. I reside there under the identity of BeautyTruthLove, or BTL for short. Anyways, I had just joined the chatter in February before my first 100 Monkeys concert and I hadn't been as active as I am now. In fact, i didn't know anyone on there nor did I talk to anyone from there. I mainly just read a few topics here and there, sometimes I posted but often times didn't post anything. It wasn't until I saw a trending thread called "Pittsburgh?"
By time I discovered the thread it had already had about 30 to 40 pages on it. I read every single post and saw just how truly hilarious and fun the girls that were posting there seemed. They were talking about meeting up together, most of them were traveling from Ohio, one from Pennsylvania... and how they would room together. None of them had ever met. I was overwhelmed by how dedicated they were. THESE were the kind of fans of the band that I wanted to know. So, I posted and said how envious I was of them because I wish I could have gone to Pittsburgh to hang out with them and enjoy another Monkey show but I didn't I'd have a way to get there because my car just isn't good enough. The response I got was shocking. Girls, whom had never met me, were actually offering to drive to Michigan and come pick me up so i could be there, so i WOULD be there. I have never in my life experienced anything like that. I knew right then and there that I had to meet these girls and that I had to go to Pittsburgh because if I didn't, I would have missed out on something extraordinary.
So, I did.
Over the next few weeks leading up to the concert I became super close with all of the girls. And I made the 5 hour trek by myself to meet up with girls I had never met but knew I could trust. Of course the 5 hour drive was a lonely one, me being the only one traveling by myself got a little exhausting at times... hell I even got lost in Pittsburgh! In fact, I got turned around on this street that actually had a sign that said "It's Okay, Go ahead and say it 'My Bad!'" I couldn't help but laugh at myself after seeing that sign! But needlesss to say, I arrived safe and sound... and FIRST I might point out in front of the restaurant we were all meeting up at. The excitement and joy I felt when I saw these girls for the first time was so amazing. It felt like I had known them my entire life.
So, we enjoyed our lunch and then it was back to check in at the hotel...
I knew that if the afternoon was any indication as to how the evening was going to be... it was going to be a night to remember!
Stay Tuned for the next installment of Melissa's Motor City Ditty where I discuss IN detail the evening of April 28th, including the 100 Monkeys Concert, and the morning after the show!
Much Monkey Love,
The Lowdown Motown Junkie
